Back in May, the Alpine Energy team had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with Glen Morris at the Smart Energy Lab
The visit was more than just an interview. Glen welcomed us into the “lab” for a tour of the technologies shaping Australia's energy future, followed by a live demonstration of MGEN M40. An in-depth conversation with our Founder, Mark Wexler was a nice way to wrap up the visit.
For anyone who has spent time in the Australian renewables industry, Glen needs little introduction. Through the Smart Energy Lab, he has become one of the sector's most respected educators, helping thousands of people better understand renewable energy, battery storage and electric vehicle technology.

Following the tour, we demonstrated the MGEN mobile DC fast charger in action.
Designed around Alpine Energy's vehicle-to-vehicle charging technology, the system enables a mobile charging vehicle to deliver DC fast charging directly to an electric vehicle wherever it is needed. Whether responding to a stranded driver, supporting roadside assistance providers or charging vehicles in locations without permanent infrastructure, the concept is simple.
As Mark describes it:
"Think about it like jumper leads for an EV."
During the demonstration, Glen explored how the system converts the onboard battery voltage into the correct charging voltage for virtually any CCS2-equipped electric vehicle, while maintaining the same charging standards and safety features found in conventional DC fast chargers.
The discussion also highlighted practical use cases that extend well beyond roadside assistance, including airports, remote communities, major events, commercial fleets and locations where permanent charging infrastructure is unavailable or capacity constrained.
The conversation also provided an opportunity to discuss Alpine Energy's broader engineering capabilities.
While the MGEN mobile charger often attracts the most attention, it represents just one part of the company's work. Mark explained how Alpine Energy has also developed battery-backed fast charging solutions that enable rapid deployment where grid capacity is limited, allowing businesses to access DC fast charging without waiting for costly network upgrades.
The interview also explored Mark's engineering background, from developing Australia's first implementation of covered conductor technology for bushfire mitigation through to creating the world's first pole-mounted battery while working in electricity distribution. These experiences continue to shape Alpine Energy's approach to solving practical energy challenges through engineering innovation.
One of the themes that emerged throughout the discussion was that Alpine Energy is, first and foremost, an engineering company.
Every product is designed as a complete solution, combining power electronics, software, cybersecurity, remote connectivity and practical field deployment into a single integrated platform. Rather than simply installing charging equipment, Alpine Energy designs, builds and integrates systems that are engineered for real-world operation.
As Australia's transition to electric vehicles accelerates, mobile charging, battery-backed infrastructure and resilient energy systems will all play an increasingly important role in keeping people moving.
